The Freedom of Information Act 2000 gives anyone the right to access certain information held by NHS Devon, subject to some conditions and exemptions.

The purpose of the Act is to promote greater openness and to help inform people of how public authorities make their operational decisions, and how public money is used.

How to make a request

Any person may request information in writing, stating:

• The name of the applicant
• An address for correspondence
• A description of the information requested
• How information is to be supplied

We acknowledge requests in writing and, if we hold the information, we will communicate it within 20 working days.

NHS Devon is not responsible for Freedom of Information requests about GPs, dentists, pharmacists or opticians. If you wish to make a Freedom of Information request about these services please contact NHS England.

Why a request may be refused

Requests will be refused if it would take longer than 18 hours or cost £450 to source it.

These limits apply to all requests made by one individual or organisation in a 60 working day period. NHS Devon offers reasonable advice and assistance to revise or narrow the request so that it can be processed within these limits.
