Devon Allied Health Professionals (AHPs).

Allied Health Professionals (AHPs) are a diverse group of 14 different registered clinical staff groups who provide diagnostic, technical, and therapeutic patient care. The creation of AHP Faculties was initially proposed in the Interim NHS People Plan. The aim was to improve the coordination of activities designed to encourage the supply, education and training, and retention of AHPs.

Initially, 24 Integrated Care Systems (ICSs) were funded to establish an AHP Faculty and to start work on at least one workforce development project. HEE defined a faculty as “a group of health, social care, private, independent, voluntary organisations (PIVO), education and training providers and arm’s length bodies (ALB), that formally work together across a Sustainability and Transformation Partnership (STP) or Integrated Care System (ICS), to support and deliver a collective approach to increasing placement capacity, supporting continuing professional development (CPD), developing Advanced Clinical Practice (ACP) roles, building partnerships with education providers and addressing other local training and education priorities.”

Following successful creation of the 24 “test-bed” faculties, the Devon AHP Faculty was set up and launched in January 2022. This report seeks to summarise the activity of the faculty over the previous four months and provide detailed information about the workstreams that the faculty are currently working on. The faculty is currently only funded until September 2022.
